NAMING: Variations of Given Name
In my research on Owen Beagan of Cavan I find Owen is often substituted by Euginus,
which is Latin for the anglicized Eugene. The early Catholic registers, tolerated by the
Church of Ireland, were not allowed to
write in Gaelic (Owen = Eoghan , pronounced Oine).
